Take on Global Warming, Pound by PoundWhat is the Challenge?Cool Capital Challenge unites individuals, schools, congregations, businesses, governments and other institutions to take a billion-pound bite out of the Capital Region's carbon dioxide emissions by April 2009. The Challenge is like a fundraising campaign, only instead of pledging money, we are pledging the region's greenhouse gas emission reduction. Our goal in Phase 1 was to get one billion pounds of reduction pledges by Earth Day 2008 and we met our challenge - THANKS TO EVERYONE, CONGRATULATIONS! In Phase 2 we are implementing all the pledges by 2009, expanding the reduction year by year and supporting broader energy reform across the region. So, check your pledge now to implement it. Here is how. If you haven't made a pledge yet take the challenge. Be Part of the Solution, Cool now Cool Capital wants to galvanize everybody in the capital region to take action on climate change with a few money-saving changes in your home, work and on the road. Collectively, we do have the power to do it now. The people of the Washington Region can make the difference by taking the challenge. | ![]() ![]() July 1, 2008 The DC Council, on July 1st, unanimously passed the full first reading of the Clean and Affordable Energy Act, which seeks to reduce Washington D.C.’s energy usage while expanding the area’s access to renewable energy sources.
